Why are we recommending?
While this book is materially different than our non-fiction book, Stonewall: The Definitive Story of the LGBTQ Rights Uprising That Changed America by Martin Duberman, this book seeks to share the position most couples find themselves in at some point: Revisiting while you remain together.
In this novel, not only do we see the struggles of the cohabitating, unmarried, diverse couple, but we also get to explore how families interact with the protagonist homosexual couple, the added burdens or comments that they face from loved ones and random strangers, the struggles of cultural differences in making a relationship work through difficult times, and we get some blips of pure humor in some of these interactions too!
I encourage you to read this story and if your family has been forever supportive of you and your choices on who you love, consider yourself blessed. Not everyone has had it quite so easy.
Next week we blast into Pride Month like a fabulous glitter bomb and ask ourselves some questions about our knowledge and understanding of the LGBTQ+ movement and what we can do each day to promote true equality amongst all humans.
Until then, enjoy this fun fiction read, and as always, BE BOLDER!
